What method did you use to install 10.8.x? Everything was fine until I ran the update, and I had a black screen after the two initial Apple startup screens.

I noticed an error message (upper left corner) immediately prior to the black screen:

header read size 200
incorrect image signature

FWIW: I have the latest nVidia driver installed for this card and OS combination. (downloaded from the nVidia site.)

I have since wiped the drive and reinstalled the OS, installed the graphics driver, the iTunes and Java update but NOT the OS 10.8.3 update. The machine is now running fine and is stable, but I need some help with installing this update.

I'll keep researching for a fix to this problem after the update. Otherwise, I may just stick with OS 10.8.2.

Thanks!
Thomas Hanserhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09735024095332100242noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9136944577630957066.post-5161889618886866292013-01-22T03:50:22.227+11:002013-01-22T03:50:22.227+11:00Thank you!Thank you!Thomas Hanserhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09735024095332100242noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9136944577630957066.post-52591123199264750882013-01-21T23:15:09.847+11:002013-01-21T23:15:09.847+11:00not quite, mines a gigabyte GeForce 8600 GT NX86not quite, mines a gigabyte GeForce 8600 GT NX86Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07814695594028561196noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9136944577630957066.post-45741809355060565922013-01-21T12:55:31.344+11:002013-01-21T12:55:31.344+11:00Those drivers DO work with an Audigy 2 card.
